The workshop on Gender Sensitization for Broadcast Media concluded today and certificates were awarded to the participants. The workshop held from 3 to 5 June was organized by the Broadcasting Commission with the assistance from ABU/CBA and UNESCO. It was held at Mookai Hotel, Male’.
The chief guest of the closing ceremony was the President of Broadcasting Commission, Mohamed Shahyb. In his speech he highlighted the importance of informed and sensitive portrayal of gender issues by broadcast media and on the importance of participation from broadcast media in trainings organized for their benefit.
The aim of this workshop is to transform how women are portrayed in media and coach broadcasters to adapt fairness and balance in reporting issues related to women and children and promote gender awareness and equity.
The 3 day workshop was conducted by Ms. Moneeza Hashmi, President of Commonwealth Broadcasting Association.
Maldives Broadcasting Commission has organized similar training programs with the aid of foreign organization like American Embassy, Asia Pacific Institute for Broadcasting Development and the ICRC.
