Certificates awarded for participants of Election Coverage Training

Training workshop held on “Enhancing the role of media in election coverage” ended this afternoon and participants were awarded certificates.

The Chief guest of the closing ceremony was Vice Presideent of Elections Commission, Ahmed Fayaz. Fayaz distributed certificates and addressed the participants on the importance of working together as a team.

President of the Broadcasting Commission Mohamed Shahyb also spoke in this ceremony. In his speech he thanked the American Embassy for the assistance provided in organizing this training aimed to develop media personnel for the upcoming election. He also conveyed his gratitude to Terry Anzur for facilitating this workshop. Addressing the participants, Shahyb highlighted the wide role media plays in covering election and educating the voters.

In this ceremony vote of thanks by the participants were delivered by Ibrahim Waheed of Raaje Tv and Shahbaan Fahmy of Sun Online. Both participants thanked Terry Anzur for the wealth of knowledge and experience she shared with them.

Ibrahim Waheed stated that outcomes of the training were achieved as this training has enabled them to learn how to cover both sides of a story having reviewed issue-oriented and voter-focused examples during the training sessions. 

Shahbaan Fahmy called upon the editors to give them the opportunity to publish and broadcast news that they prepare fact-checked in line with best practices.

To further develop journalists working in the broadcasting sector Maldives Broadcasting Commission is also organizing a training programme in creative content with the aid of Asia Pacific Institute of Broadcast Development and CFI. This event is scheduled to commence on 03^rd February.
