An evening to create awareness on Broadcast Code of Practice was held by the Maldives Broadcasting Commission in collaboration with the UNDP.
Participants of the event held at Nasandhura Palace Hotel included high level officials from government offices, independent commissions, NGO’s and other relevant institutions.
President of the Maldives Broadcasting Commission, Mohamed Shahyb in his speech said that even though the responsibility of monitoring broadcast content is mandated to the Maldives Broadcasting Commission by law, to carry out this task most effectively the support of the public is much needed. The public can now inform the Commission via the complaints form highlighting issues related to programs aired and action will be taken by the Commission accordingly to rectify these issues in dialogue with the relevant broadcasters.
The participants of the event were shown presentations on broadcast Code of Practice and the three guidelines prepared under the code. A Q and A session was also held where members of the Commission answered questions put forward by the participants.
This is a first of such awareness campaigns to be carried out by the Commission.
