Awareness evening held on Enhancing the role of media in Election Coverage

An evening to create awareness on enhancing the role of media was held by the Maldives Broadcasting Commission in collaboration with the Embassy of United States (Sri Lanka and Maldives).
On the event held at Nasandhura Palace HotelTerry Anzur, who is a professional multimedia journalist with 30 years of experience from US presented her speech on “Democracy Outloud” and Election’s Commission also gave a presentation on their role during the elections addressing to the media.
The evening concluded with panel members answering questions raised by the guests. Answer Panel consisted of members from Elections Commission,Terry Anzur and a moderator from Maldives Broadcasting Commission.
Participants of the event included high level officials from Media organization, government offices, independent commissions, NGO’s, UNDP, other relevant institutions and journalists from various media stations.
Commission has also planned to conduct a five day workshop on Election Coverage for media. This workshop will commence on January 26th. Moreover, Commission will also be formulating an election covering guideline for the broadcasters with Terry Anzur.
