 Broadcast  Advisory  Committee  (BAC) Inaugurated

The Inaugural meeting of the Broadcast Advisory Committee (BAC) was held today at the Maldives Broadcasting Commission.

The President of the Broadcasting Commission Mr. Badru Naseer, welcomed the members of BAC and reiterated the importance of regulations and guidelines to assist broadcasters to strengthen professionalism and ethics in the Maldives broadcasting sector.

In the meeting held today, a total of 13 documents prepared by the Broadcasting Commission were shared with the Advisory Committee for their comments and suggestions. These documents include, the first drafts of the freshly formulated;

2. Broadcasting Fee Schedule

3. Broadcasting Fine schedule

4. Advertising Code

5. Code of Ethics

6. Guideline on Reporting Disasters

7. Guideline on Reporting Children

8. Guideline on Reporting Women

9. Frequency Regulation

10. Frequency Plan

11. Complaints Mechanism

12. Complaints Flowchart

13. Complaints Form

In the meeting held today, the Broadcast Commission members requested the Advisory Committee to submit their comments and suggestions to the above mentioned Regulations and Guidelines by 30 November 2011.

Today’s inaugural meeting of BAC was attended by a total of 16 members. Licensed broadcasters, rebroadcasters and the remaining were stakeholders from Government Ministries, Independent Institutions and Associations.

As according to the Strategic Action Plan 2011 to 2015 of the Broadcasting Commission, BAC would be consulted by the Commission in matters related to broadcast regulations, guidelines, and other policy related issues.

The Maldives Broadcasting Commission aims to bring out all broadcast related regulations within the coming months.

The regulations and guidelines shared with BAC today will be made available on the Broadcasting Commission’s website www.broadcom.org.mv for public comments before the end of November .
