The sensitization workshop for media on reporting in emergencies and situation of violence organised by the Maldives Broadcasting Commission in collaboration with the Maldives Red Crescent has concluded this evening.
The chief guest for the ceremony, Deputy Minister of Defence and Head of National Disaster Management Centre, Fathmath Thasneem awarded certificates to the participants. In her speech Minister Thasneem highlighted the importance of the role of media in disaster situations and the need to build awareness among the public and on preparedness.
President of Maldives Broadcasting Commission, Mohamed Shahyb, in his speech highlighted the importance of covering disasters professionally adhering to international best practices as in such situation the public highly depends on broadcasters for news and latest updates.
The one day Sensitization training for media which commenced this morning at Nasandhura Palace Hotel was conducted by experts from the International Federation of Red Cross and International Community of Red Cross and Red Crescent. Participants of today’s workshop were broadcast journalists and members representing other relevant authorities.
