Maldives Broadcasting Commission has declared today that 4th October will be marked as the “Broadcast Day” annually.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony of the two-day workshop organized by the Ministry of Enviroment and Energy for media people, the President of the Commission Mohamed Shahyb made this announcement today and further said that at the aim of marking a “broadcast day” is to celebrate and value the work of broadcasters and further develop broadcasters who play an important role in nation building, promoting democracy, creating awareness among public and building information rich citzen. Shahyb also said that Commission has decided to have a ceremony to mark the broadcast day and to award the exceptionally performing broadcasters.
Maldives Broadcasting Commission decided to mark a “Broadcast day” after consultation with the Broadcast Advisory committee. In addition to the development, celebrating and marking a broadcast day will build awareness among public with regard to broadcasting in Maldives.
Commission decided to mark 4th October as the “Broadcast day” as it is the day the first broadcast signal was tested in Maldives.
Commission has asked for the approval of President Mohamed Waheed Hassan to mark “Broadcast day” at national level as this a significant day for the entire nation.
In his speech addressing the participants of the workshop Shahyb said that media plays and important role in providing information and with regard climate change.
He called upon media personnel to work to build awareness with regard to environmental issues, envrioment protection, innovative reporting on environmental issues and to work in order to achieve goals with the aid of people from other relevant fields.
He also expressed his hope that the workshop inaugurated today will create an important platform to exchange ideas learn from experience on issues related to climate change and the role of media.
