July 16, 2012

In a meeting held at the Maldives Broadcasting Commission yesterday afternoon, the Commission discussed with the Maldives Media Council the importance of making media responsible in the current political environment.

The main issues focused in the discussion were, working together to address the common areas of work identified in the legislations without limiting the freedom of media and the importance of conducting awareness programs on laws and regulations for state institutions.

In the light of yesterdays’ discussion, both parties agreed to find a way forward in collectively adjudicating complaints on media. Both parties also agreed to conduct awareness programs to state institutions on the role of the media regulations and to meet media organizations to listen to their views while regulating it.
