Maldives Broadcasting Commission condemns the attack on Raaje TV Cameraman

Maldives Broadcasting Commission condemns the attack on the Raaje TV Cameraman during last night’s protests in Male.

Following is the statement issued by the Maldives Broadcasting Commission in this regard.

“Maldives Broadcasting Commission condemns the events leading to injury to the Raaje Television Cameraman during last night’s protest.

“We have received complaints that a Raaje TV’s cameraman was injured during last night’s protest while the police tried to disperse the crowd. Another complaint was also received on the 9th of July stating that a Raaje TV journalist covering the protest was injured by the police.

“The Commission calls upon the security forces not to hamper or interfere with the work of broadcast media involved in covering protests and to give them the opportunity to practice media freedom guaranteed by the constitution.

“At the same time, the Commission also advises all broadcasters not to misuse their right to practice media freedom to achieve political objectives.”
