Maldives Broadcasting Commission condemns the break-in to Raaje TV Station and vandalizing their broadcasting equipment

Maldives Broadcasting Commission has strongly condemned the break-in and vandalizing broadcasting equipment of Rajje TV Station.

Following is the press release issued by Maldives Broadcasting Commission.

“Maldives Broadcasting Commission strongly condemns the break-in and vandalizing broadcasting equipment of Rajje TV Station. This is a premeditated cowardly act to suppress the freedom expression and the freedom of the media, which is the main aspect of a Democracy.

“Commission condemns all acts of violence targeted to broadcasters, and we appeal all citizens to build equal opportunities for media involvement within a democratic environment.

“Maldives Broadcasting Commission called upon Maldives Police Service to expedite the investigation process and bring justice and punish those who are responsible for this serious attack.

“Additionally, commission urges Maldives Police to withdraw their decision not to co-operate with Raajje TV, and to treat all broadcasters in a fair and unbiased manner.

“We hope Rajjje TV will soon recover from the damages, and starts its transmission at the earliest.”
