September 10, 2012

Ministry of Islamic Affairs has requested Maldives Broadcasting Commission to select a broadcaster for the Hajj trip offered by the Saudi government to cover the Hajj event via Radio and Television.

The role of this selection was given to the Commission in response to the Commission’s request. In the past, the Hajj trip was given to the state broadcasting media even though commercial broadcasters have commenced service in Maldives from 2007 onwards. Being the regulator of broadcasting, the Commission has decided to make the selection process to be fair and equitable to all broadcasters.

According to the selection  criteria set by the Saudi government , the eligible person need to be an experienced male broadcast journalist who has not performed Hajj before.  Once the Commission shortlists three candidates, their CV’s will be sent to Saudi Arabia and the final selection would be done by them.

The Commission has decided that the opportunity will be given to all licensed broadcasters but those who have not started to operate.  The Commission is now carrying out the selection work to nominate three candidates for the Hajj trip.
