Preliminary Research on Community Broadcasting has ended with a final trip to Vaavu. Atoll.

Preliminary research on community broadcasting which was carried out with the aid of UNDP has ended yesterday with a final trip to Vaavu Atoll.

An expert in the field of community broadcasting Dr. Murray Green from Australia provided technical assistance on this research and also the previous visit to Addu City and Fuvamulah to meet the Councils, Clubs/Societies, Head of Schools and youth to gather information for the research

The trip to Vaavu Atoll was made to gather information from a less populous Atoll.  Dr. Green visited three islands of Vaavu Atoll namely Keyodhoo, Felidhoo and Thinadhoo. On this visit meetings were held with the Island Council, Women’s committee, Clubs/Societies and youth.

The President of Broadcasting Commission, Mohamed Shahyb and Vice President Abdulla Sujau and Commissioner Ibrahim Ashraf also participated in this trip.

The aim of doing this research is to learn how community broadcasting can be initiated in Maldives and to find ways and levels it can be introduced and also to formulate regulations in the light of the research.
