Three members elected to the Broadcast Advisory Committee to represent commercial TV channels

Three members have been elected to Broadcast Advisory Committee to represent commercial TV channels today.

In the election held today 6 candidates from 6 channels contested. The three members elected to the Committee are Umar Abdulla, Legal Counsel of MVTV, secured seat with in unanimous with 8 votes and Imad Hassan Latheef Director General of VTV and Thoyyib Mohamed CEO of Channel M.

8 representsatives from Commercial TV participated and voted to elect members to Broadcast Advisory Committee. Broadcasting Commission invited all commercial broadcasters to participate in this election.

President of the Commission Mohamed Shahyb met with the newly elected members to the Committee and congratulated the members. He also addressed the members and said that upon election of 2 members to represent commercial radio to the Committee the Broadcast Advisory Committee will be established and with the advice of the Committee he hopes to carry out the development broadcast industry.

The mandate of the Broadcast Advisory Committee is to enact broadcasting regulation , develop policies and advise the Commission on bringing revisions to the regulation and policies. The committee’s mandate also includes advising the Commission on the development of broadcast industry and to bring challenges facing the industry to Commission’s attention.

Maldives Broadcasting Commission has decided to hold the election to elect 2 members to represent commercial radio soon.
