Two members have been elected to Broadcast Advisory Committee to represent Commercial Radios today.
In the election held today Managing Director of Radio FM Fayyaz Ismail was elected unanimously with a total of 4 votes. Director General of VFM Mohamed Ikram and DhiFM 95.2 Niuma Ugail each got two votes and the election led to a second round.
In the second round VFM’s Director General Mohamed Ikram got 3 votes and secured seat in Broadcast Advisory Committee.
Maldives Broadcasting Commission sent invitations to all Commercial Radio Stations to vote in this election and four representatives from Commercial Radio stations participated and voted in this election.
President of the Commission congratulated those elected to the Broadcast Advisory Committee and said that with the representation from Stakeholders, BAC will be formulated and hopes the work of BAC will commence soon. He also said that he hopes upon formation of this Committee, with the advice of the members of this Committee, the Commission would be able to formulate and carry out the required development projects to strengthen the broadcast industry.
The mandate of the Broadcast Advisory Committee is to enact broadcasting regulation, develop policies and advise the Commission on bringing revisions to the regulation and policies. The committee’s mandate also includes advising the Commission on the development of broadcast industry and to bring challenges facing the industry to Commission’s attention.
